Matthew Prosser named HDN Managing Editor

The Henderson Daily News announced Friday that Rusk County native and Overton High School graduate Matthew Prosser has been named Managing Editor of the newspaper.

Prosser, 36, has been with the Daily News since being hired in August 2009 as a Staff Writer. He has served as the newspaper’s News Editor since 2010.

“It’s both an honor and privilege to work for the official paper of record for Henderson and Rusk County,” he said. “While I feel like I still have so much to learn, I am humbled to be entrusted with this role and will endeavor to prove myself worthy of our readers’ trust in providing them with a top-notch news product.”

Prosser has been honored with numerous journalism awards from the Associated Press, Texas Press Association, and Northeast Texas press Association, including being named NETPA’s Journalist of the Year in 2012 after consectutive years as runner-up.

Journalism is an exciting, ever-evolving field,” he said. “I am eager to help guide this paper’s progess into the next era, as our field continues to grow and change. The HDN’s commitment to our readers will remain as strong as ever, even as we seek to reach the next generation of news readers.”

Prosser studied philosophy and religion at the University of Oklahoma and St. John’s College (Maryland), he is married to the former Candace Daniels and has five children.
