Riddled with injuries and playing their ninth straight away game the Overton Mustangs were unable to stop the Carlisle Indian warpath, falling 42-0 in District 9-A action Friday night.
Overton (2-7, 1-4) was playing without six starters, including standout freshman halfback Jamal Kelly, who is averaging 135 yards and two touchdowns per game this season.
The Mustangs were also without junior Forrest Lee and sophomore Jesse Roach, important two-way starters, as well as sophomore kicker Ryan Gonzales. Overton started no less than three freshmen on defense, with several sophomores thrust into action as well.
But senior Shelton Rogers, with juniors Austin McCasland and Tim Hawkins managed to lead the Mustangs to nearly 200 yards on the ground, despite not getting on the scoreboard. McCasland also completed his only pass of the night, to junior wideout Derek Graham for 21 yards.
Defensively, freshman T.J. Lewis had nine tackles in his first varsity start while sophomore linebacker Greg Moore led the way with 13 tackles.
