Dawn of Summer

Our season trends toward warmth, as the days grow longer. Though the cool respite of wind-kissed nights yet remain, the heat of the noontide Sun grows more sultry than sublime.

It seems that the experts are correct, for it is getting hotter. I have no doubt the average daily temperature has risen dramatically in only the last couple months… almost as if the earth has shifted in such a position that we are now getting the brunt of the Sun`s heat. There must be someone to blame for this, if only I could find a convenient scapegoat to suit my own ideological interests! But seriously…

June is the first month of true Summer, and I look forward to a sweat-slick brow and ruddy-dry cheeks…

to feeling the warm grass against bare legs and the faint tickle of sunburned shoulders…

to walking through the burning white sand of the beach and salving scorched feet `neath the cold tumbling surf…

to things that grow and crawl in the dirt, and songs of the birds with the first glimmers of gold over a horizon of Sea…

to nights of earnest talkings, and late Suppers with friends…

to walkings with the ghosts down-around-Downtown, under warm star-filled nights…

to sleeping-late mornings of leisure, and busybody afternoons of frolic…

to picnics, road trips, fireworks, festivals, parades…

to lazy afternoons in Camden Yards, and strolls in the nation`s capital.

To June, and the turn of another blessed season… and all the Summer-colored days to come.
