Can one feel a stare? That is, do human beings somehow have the intuition to know when someone is looking at them?
Today, on separate occasions, I both “felt” someone looking at me (and looked up at them in time to see them look away) and I also watched someone until they looked in my direction. Unscientific and experientially mystical though it might seem, I cannot help but wonder if there is not something to this.
Of course, I cannot help but wonder if there is not some sort of confirmation bias in considering this; such that I somehow scarcely recall any of the numerous instances when I neither notice that I am being observed or are noticed observing others.
I also wonder why it is customary to look away suddenly when “caught” looking at someone – as though every such encounter must be, by necessity, tinged with guilt or embarrassment.
Human beings are a curious race.
